Los físicos se interesan por el fenómeno de la luz, la mezcla de luces cromáticas, la clasificación del color a través de la comprensión de las frecuencias y longitudes de onda de los rayos luminosos de colores y tocan solo periféricamente el campo de los pintores y diseñadores.

La sensación del color se puede diferenciar en tres características esenciales:
